The Safari Twins fear359 M,F, QS This story is from the pictures drawn by QS Pencil, Bobby McCoy and his twin Sister Sue were on their way to the Amazon jungle with their parents when the plane that they were on had engine trouble. The pilot told them all to put on the parachutes and to get ready to bail out of the plane when he told them too. When the plane got to 1700 feet the pilot told them to all jump. The parents told the two kids to jump, and they would be right behind them. Bobby was the first one to jump out. Five seconds later Sue followed him out the door. They were both told to count to 15 and then pull to rip cord and their chutes would open. As Bobby counted to 15 he pulled, and when he looked up he saw that Sue had pulled her chute 5 seconds later. Bobby kept waiting to see his parents jump out of the plane, but there was no sign of them anywhere. The left engine on the plane caught fire, and with all the smoke Bobby couldn't see anything but his sister Sue. Bobby screamed at the top of his lungs for his parents to get out of the burning plane. Then he saw three people jump out of the plane, and then 15 seconds later he saw 3 chutes open, and then a huge explosion filled the sky as the plane that they were all on went up in flames. As far as Bobby could tell, his parents and the pilot were drifting away from them. He called to his sister, Sue, who was crying because she was scared. Her parents were being taking by the breeze, away from them. The ground was coming up on the two twins fast, and then all of a sudden they hit hard, but just as the ground was coming up on them it stopped. They were both hanging in the air about 10 feet off the ground. Their chutes had gotten caught in the trees above them. As they both look around at the hostile looking jungle beneath them, they know that they have to get down and find their parents and the pilot, and somehow get out of this jungle. This is their story. "Sue, are you ok? SUE, answer me, are you alright"? "Bobby where are mom, and dad? I'm scared, I don't want to be here, what are we gonna do"? "First of all we have to drop to the ground, and then we are gonna go find mom and dad"! "No, I say that we wait here and wait for mom and dad to come get us! I don't want to get walking through this place. It looks really bad down there"! "Look Sue, I know that you are scared, and to tell you the truth, I am too. But I am not gonna hang around here in these trees and wait for mom and dad. Besides that, we don't know if they are alright or not. They could be hurt, so we have to get down and go look for them"! "Bobby do you really think that they might be hurt"? "I don't know Sue, but I am not gonna hang around here and not know. So are you gonna stay in that chute or are you gonna go with me"? "You wouldn't leave me here would you Bobby"? "Sue, I'm going down. Now you can either stay here or go with me. So what's it gonna be"? "I'll----I'll go with you. But we're to far up to drop down to the ground, how do you suppose we get down"? "Watch me. I'm gonna try and swing over to that tree over there and once I get a good grip on it I'm gonna get out of this chute". "Bobby be careful, alright?" "I will Sue. Just sit tight, and once I get a hold of that tree you follow me"! As Bobby starts swinging back-and-forth, he gets closer and closer to the tree he is reaching for. All of a sudden the branches holding their chutes start cracking, and the twins are dropped 6 feet in seconds. "Sue, you alright? It looks like we are about four or five feet above the ground. Do you think that you can fall that far and not get hurt"? "Bobby, this is a lot closer to the ground then where we were. I say we go for it"! "OK then, on three we drop out of our chutes to the ground"! "Alright Bobby, on three"! "Ready Sue? Here we go -- ONE, TWO, THREE"! Bobby, and Sue, drop out of their chutes and hit the ground hard. "Sue, are you alright"? "Yeah, I'm alright. I just thought that we would hit the ground a little harder than we did, that's all"! "I know what you mean. I thought for sure it would hurt some, but lucky for us we were only up about five feet. Come on. I think that mom and dad should be this way"! "BOBBY, I CAN'T MOVE MY FEET! THEY'RE STUCK"! "HEY WAIT A MINUTE, MINE ARE TOO, WHAT IS GOING ON? I CAN'T SEEM TO PULL THEM OUT OF THE GROUND"! "Bobby, I can move my feet a little, and I'm gonna try to get out and then I can get you"! "Wait Sue, don't try to move. The ground underneath my feet doesn't feel right"! "AHHHH COME ON, LET GO OF MY FEET WILL YOU! BOBBY, I ALMOST HAVE MY LEFT FOOT FREE------AHHHHHH"! As Sue tried to free her feet she loosened up to ground beneath them, and it seem to just open up and slowly pull them in. "Sue, this is quicksand! We're trapped"! "NO! I won't die here Bobby! I can get out. I know I can"! "Sue stop it, you are only making it worse. The more you move around, the deeper that we both sink. Stop moving around and we'll stop sinking"! "Are you sure, Bobby"? "No, but I do know that the more you move, the more we sink, so if you stop moving then we should stop sinking"! "Bobby, I'm scared! I want out of this stuff, and I want mom and dad"! "I know Sue, but you have to trust me, alright? Just relax and try not to move around and I'll try and think of someway to get us out of this quicksand"! As Sue tries to calm down, the twins sink into the quicksand up to their waists. Sue starts crying again and Bobby is trying to think of a way out of this trap, when they hear a noise from above them. "Bobby what was that? I'm afraid to look up. I'm scared to move at all. I don't want this stuff to pull us in anymore"! "I don't believe it Sue! It's a monkey, and it's jumping up and down on the branch that is holding our chutes"! "Do you think that it is trying to help us out of this stuff or what Bobby?" "Sue, I just don't know. All I know is that we don't have a lot of time. We either sink all the way in this stuff or we stop sinking, or something comes up and eats us. Either way we are gonna die if we don't do something"! As Bobby and Sue look up at the monkey, the monkey seems to know that if it doesn't do something then they will slowly be sucked into the great unknown never to be seen again. The monkey begins jumping up and down as hard as it can on the branch, trying to bring the chute closer to the twins. As the twins sink up to their chests, the monkey lets out a scream and jumps up, and the branch cracks enough to drop inches from the twins. "Bobby, it did it! We can grab the chute and pull ourselves out"! "Come on Sue, let's get out of here"! As the monkey looks on, the twins grab the chute and begin to pull on it. They are slowly coming out of the quicksand when the branch starts to crack more. "SUE, STOP! The branch won't hold us both! We are gonna have to get out of here one at a time! You go first, and then I'll get out"! "No Bobby, you are gonna have to go first, because what happens if I can't pull you out? Besides you are stronger than I am, and this stuff has got a good grip on us"! "Alright, Sue, I'll pull myself out and then I get you out"! Bobby pulls with all his might, and the quicksand is starting to let him go. The branch is holding, and Bobby is praying that is holds until he can get out. Bobby's feet come out of the quicksand, and then he starts swinging on the chute until he is by a tree, and then he lets go, and falls to the ground, as the chutes swings back over to Sue. "Bobby, what are you doing? I thought that you were gonna pull me out"? "Sue, I tried to get the branch to break, but it wouldn't. Try and pull yourself out, and swing over here"! "Alright Bobby, I'll try"! As Sue tries to pull herself out of the quicksand, she feels herself slowly coming out of it. Then the branch breaks and she falls back into the quicksand pit! "BOBBY!!!!!!!!! THE BRANCH BROKE! AND NOW THERE IS NO WAY FOR ME TO GET OUT!!!!" "Sue, listen to me, and listen good. The branch broke, and the chute is now free. All you have to do is hold on and I can use a stick to drag the chute to me"! "OK, but hurry! I'm starting to sink again"! As Bobby looks around for a branch to grab the chute, he finds one, about five feet long, and after slowly walking forward, to find out where the quicksand starts, he finds that the chute is only two feet away from him. He picks it up, and tells his sister to hang on. "Sue hang on! I'll have you out of there in a minute"! "Bobby hurry! I'm still sinking"! "Alright, Sue! Here we go"! Bobby pulls with all his might, and prays that this works, and that Sue doesn't sink before he can get her out! Slowly, ever so slowly, Sue is moving towards her brother, and after what seemed like forever Bobby grabs his sister's hand and pulls her out of the deadly quicksand. "Sue, are you alright? Sue"? "Bobby, yes, yes, I'm fine, thank-you for saving me"! "It's not like I'm gonna let you die out here. Now come on. Let's go find some water so we can get cleaned up"! "Alright, but first we should say thank-you to that monkey, because if it wasn't for him we would have died in that stuff"! As they both turn around and look up they see that the monkey is still there and looking at them. As they both say Thank-you and smile at the monkey, they wave goodbye and they are shocked to see the monkey wave back at them. And as quick as the monkey showed up to rescue them, it jumped to a vine and disappeared into the jungle! "Bobby you don't suppose that monkey knew we were in danger, do you"? "Sue, I don't know. I do know that we owe our lives to that monkey, and who knows, maybe that monkey has saved others from that quicksand. Now let's go find somewhere to get cleaned up, and then we'll go find mom and dad"! As the twins go off in the direction that their parents and pilot went off in, they see the wonders and the dangers on the Amazon Jungle. After about a mile walking through the jungle, the twins come upon a small stream, where they can clean off. Bobby tells Sue to wait while he checks it out first. After dropping right into a pit a quicksand, he didn't want to take any chances with the stream. He pulled out some of the parachute cord that he kept just in case they needed it, and after tying it to a tree by the stream he slowly tested the ground. After he was sure that is was safe he walked out and told Sue that it was alright, but keep the cord tied around her waist just in case! "Sue, the waters alright, and the mud is just mud, no quicksand hiding underneath it. But I want you to keep this tied around you just in case. I might have to pull you out of there in a hurry. Understand?" "Yes, I understand Bobby, and believe me, I am not going out that far. Just far enough to get cleaned up and get this nasty mud off me"! "Okay, then you go ahead and get cleaned off and I'll keep watch"! "Bobby, I'm getting hungry and I want to eat"! "I know Sis, I'm getting hungry myself. Maybe we can find some fruit to eat, and some running water to drink. I don't want to drink standing water, who knows what is in it"! As Sue gets herself cleaned up, she can't believe how muddy she was. That quicksand that they were in was thick and sticky. As she walked in the stream she could feel the clumps of mud fall off her legs and she felt at least 10 pounds lighter. After she had gotten most of the mud off of her she walked back to where her brother was waiting. "How do you feel Sue"? "About 10 pounds lighter Bobby. That stuff was gross! It felt like it was alive, and it wanted us for lunch"! "Well I don't know if quicksand is alive or not, but I do know what you mean. This place is full of dangers, and we have to be on our toes if we want to get out of here alive. So you have to promise me that you will be careful if somehow we get separated"! "Now why would we get separated? But if we do I promise that I will be careful"! "Good, now lets go see if we can find something to eat"! As they start walking deeper into the jungle, they hear all kinds of sounds that put them both on edge. The sun is slowly getting blocked out by the trees, and the jungle is starting to get a lot more hostile. "Bobby, I'm getting scared! It's starting to get darker, and this place is looking more and more like a bad dream"! "Sue, I know, but we have to keep going. I don't want to stop here, it's too scary, and who knows what is up in those trees. Let's just keep moving and hopefully we will find something to eat soon"! The twins walk on for about another two miles and the jungle starts to thin out again, and the sun breaks back through the trees. As they come down a hill they can see banana trees about 50 yards down the trail. They both start running for them until they are standing right in front of them. "Bobby how do we get them down here to us? They have got to be at least 15 of 20 feet up there"? "I don't know let me think for a minute. I'm gonna go see if I can find a branch of something to throw up there and knock some of them down"! "Well don't expect me to stay here by myself, because that is out of the question"! "OK, come on let's see it we can find something to knock those bananas out of the tree". As they walk around looking for a branch heavy enough to knock the banana's down, but light enough for them to throw up and hit them, they come across branches, and after they gather about 10 or 12 they head back to the tree. "Alright Sue, this should do the trick. All we have to do is hit them with these branches, and they should fall to the ground. Then we can have something to eat. You ready"? "Are you kidding? I'm starving! Lets get this show on the road"! "Alright, you stand over there and you throw yours after I throw mine, alright?" "Alright Bobby"! "Ready, Throw"! As they let the branches fly up towards the bananas both of the branches they threw up hit bananas and fall to the ground. As they let two more branches fly Sue's branch hits a spot just above the bananas, and it breaks off and falls to the ground. When it hit it splits in two and the twins watch in horror as a nest of Banana Spiders come crawling out of their now damaged home! "BOBBY WHAT ARE THEY?" "BANANA SPIDERS SUE! AND THEY LOOK LIKE THEY ARE VERY MAD! RUN"! "BOBBY, THEY HAVE CUT US OFF! I CAN'T GET TO YOU"! "SUE! HEAD DOWN THAT TRAIL AND I'LL TRY AND MAKE IT TO YOU FROM THIS SIDE! NOW GO! I DON'T THINK THAT THEIR BITE IS POISONOUS, BUT DON'T TAKE ANY CHANCES! RUN!" As the twins split up the spiders follow them. Bobby has most of them chasing him because he waited until Sue was gone before he started to run from them. Sue is running for her very life. She didn't want to run away from her brother, but the spiders made it impossible for her to get to her brother's side. Now as she is running down a small trail down she stops to see if the spiders are still following her. She can't see them but can hear something coming down the trail. On her right is some high grass that has to be at least 10 feet tall, and if she hides in it the spiders will go right past her. Then she can double back and be with her brother. "Alright, all I have to do is step into this high grass and wait for the eight legged monsters to go by, and then I'm outta here! As Sue hears the spiders coming down the trail her skin starts to crawl, like she has spiders all over her. She stays as still as she can, and after what seems like years she can hear the spiders' noise getting farther and farther away. "Thank you! I'm so glad that they didn't see me here! Now to find Bobby, round up those bananas and get out of this nasty jungle! We have to find -- huh, hey, what gives? What did I just step in? No! Not quicksand again! OK... no problem. Just slowly turn around and go back the way I came!" As Sue tries to turn around and head back the way she came, the mud closed in over her shoes, and then the bottom fell out from beneath her, and she sank up to her ankles. "No, No, NO, BOBBY! Help me! I'm stuck in some quicksand, and I can't get out! Bobby, please be alright, and I hope that you can hear me! BOBBY"! As Sue struggles she only sinks in the quicksand deeper. Her knees went under and she still would not stop struggling. The quicksand pulled her in up to her thighs, and then she got an idea: if she leaned to her right she might be able to reach the tall grass that was close. But as she started to lean right, the quicksand shifted underneath her left foot and she fell to her left, and her left arm hit the quicksand and was pulled in very quickly. "NO! GIMMIE BACK MY ARM, DO YOU HEAR ME GIVE IT BACK TO ME RIGHT NOW! BOBBY, PLEASE HELP ME. I CAN'T GET OUT OF THE STUFF, AND IT'S PULLING ME IN! BOBBY PLEASE YOU HAVE GOT TO HELP ME! B-----O-----B-----B-----Y! ( - Part 2 - ) |
